Newmarket Viaduct

29th August and we were allowed to walk on the southbound lanes of the new Newmarket Viaduct.  It's not ready for vehicular traffic yet, but for pedestrians it is wonderful.  Great views across Newmarket and a real treat for those able to make the effort to walk the bridge.  The weather was a bit showery and some showers were pretty heavy, but this gave a bit of drama to the skies.

The first shot in this post looks over Newmarket towards the Waitamata Harbour and you can see the rain clouds and the wet roads.  This shot is a five shot HDR image.

Second shot is also an HDR image looking north down the bridge.  You can see the bridge is built on a curve and there's quite a bit of "stuff" underneath used in the bridge construction.

I'll close this post with a few more shots from the bridge ... in fact they're all HDR shots processed in Photomatix Pro.  Some of the clouds are quite interesting ... perhaps let me know what you think.

  1. Thanks for the images... i was searching photos from people that made the walk (would have loved the opportunity myself but living overseas). I dont recall seeing images taken & photoshopped like this before and really like it. Shame it wasnt a clear bluesky as the shots would have been great toward the harbour but great impact of the clouds nonetheless. Thanks!

  2. Hi Gid, delighted you like the shots. It was a pretty grey and gloomy day and I suppose I made the weather look rather more grim than it really was. The clouds were pretty dramatic though.

  3. Hey Chris, you know I'm not a big fan of HDR, but these are brilliant. I always get the feeling I'm in one of those lovely films like "The Polar Express". Very cool. SS
